Recharge, Reset and Refocus

Well, it’s 2021. Typically, when the year starts I grind out all my New Year’s resolutions, buy a planner and let my Type-A self run wild. This year…I’ve been taking it slow, allowing myself some time to breathe and refocusing on what I want to accomplish this year.

Here are just a few things that have been helping me ease into this new year:

Take a walk outside

Daily walks are my kind of happy hour. Take a moment of your day to go on a daily walk. It can be a quick 15-minute stroll between Zoom meetings or a long hike on the weekends. Just put on some headphones, listen to a new podcast and reconnect with yourself in new surroundings.

My favorite podcast right now is the Armchair Expert by Dax Shepard.

Unplug – it’s okay to take a break

I’ve been having to take social media breaks more often than ever. It’s hard to fathom how much time we truly spend on our screens – whether it be on our phones, watching tv shows/movies, working on our laptops – we fully reside in this digital space.

I’m starting to realize the irony of this as I’m typing away on my laptop, to post on my blog, that is in cyberspace …but I digress.

Whenever I feel overwhelmed, I take a couple days off from social media and it has helped my mental health immensely. Curating your social media feeds to cater to your mental health is just as important.

Here are a few accounts on Instagram that I’ve been loving to see on my feed:

@allisonleyoga – Allison is one of my dear friends from college and she is the sweetest soul. Her account is filled with positive affirmations and she’s a yoga queen!

@_kellyu – Wow. I LOVE Kelly. Not only is she a lovely human being but she radiates positivity and self-love.

@lizclimo – I can guarantee you Liz’s drawings will make you smile.

Challenge yourself in new ways

During this time, it’s easy to get caught up with your career, trying to keep your social life together, remaining sane…etc. and your days just start blending together. Challenging yourself in new ways can break up your mundane routine and help you discover new hobbies or even help you fall back in love with old ones.

I decided to challenge myself this month with Yoga with Adriene’s BREATH – A 30 Day Yoga Journey. So far, I’m a little over halfway through and it’s been transformative. No matter how busy my day is, I make sure to start or end my day with her practice and it’s something I look forward to every day.

Cheers to another year of learning and growing!

I’ve definitely been conscious of hitting the brake more (and not stepping on the gas so hard) this year and it’s been absolutely lovely. Thank you for being such a light on this life journey!
